Learning Growth Mindset

Before this assignment, I had never heard of Carol Dweck.  After watching a couple of videos of her discussing Growth Mindset, I'm very intrigued.  Looking back over my years in school, I can definitely say that I have not always been the best at having a growth mindset.  At times, I find myself running away from difficult problems, instead of taking them as a challenge.  I constantly am worried about making good grades when I need to learn how to grow my mind.  I think learning more about Growth Mindset this semester would benefit me in many ways.  School should be about learning and challenging your mind, not stressing over what grade you receive.  This is a lesson that I really need to put into practice and I hope that learning more about Dweck's Growth Mindset idea can do just that.

  1. Caitlyn,

I totally take your point about running away from difficult problems. Especially in the context of a growth mindset, I think that this is particularly important in terms of continuing to pursue opportunities. Lately, I've faced a lot of rejection at both an institutional and professional level, so it can be really easy to just throw my hands up and not continue to push forward. However, such an attitude is ultimately defeatist and not particularly growth mindset-y.
